- citizenERICH [James Flaherty]Graduate architect and freelance designer currently working in Melbourne, Australia.
During my final year of architectural studies I founded citizenERICH [citizenerich.com] as a creative outlet to test new ideas and provoke discussion. It has also included a growing amount of freelance creative work in the fields of architecture, design, art and music. The basic premise behind citizenERICH is that design should be driven from an idea and a process. The role of the designer is to challenge and re-define through a clear process. The process should be open and allow for opportunities to discover, collaborate, analyse + create. The role of the designer is not to create the industry norm but to challenge it. Most importantly the designer has a responsibility to engage in a wider political, social and cultural discourse. My killer sense of design and sharp eye allow me to seamlessly leap from client to cient, project to project, and media to media in a manor reminiscent of a panther formally trained as a ballerino.
